Malcolm Head

Co-founder of The Head Partnership, Malcolm is now a consultant, advising on financial, strategic and operational issues. He continues to advise businesses with a view to reducing exposure and increasing profit, particularly with regard to Commercial Property, Commercial Contracts, Employment Law, IT matters and Sports Law.

He represents a wide cross section of business and clients including a large number of owner managed companies, large and small software development houses, major property investors and sports and entertainment stars.

A dedicated sports player and fan, he has represented Reading, Berkshire and England schools at cricket over the period of his career. Malcolm has also played soccer and rugby to high standard but like his colleague Jill, he is currently struggling with the sporting roller coaster of golf and is a member at Sonning Golf Club.

In addition to client pressures, Malcolm also faces the added challenge of being a life long Arsenal FC supporter.

Richard Rodway

Richard Rodway

Richard joined The Head Partnership in 2000 having previously worked in Buckinghamshire. He became a Partner in 2003 and is now the Partner in charge of the family department.

Richard is a Collaborative Lawyer, a member of the Law Society's Family Panel and Resolution. The diversity of work, regular client contact and a genuine sense of assisting people deal with difficult issues are what Richard derives most enjoyment and satisfaction from.

Richard has forged close links, and become involved, with local groups and charities, and he regularly conducts seminars and clinics. He is also a committee member of the Thames Valley Family Lawyers Society.

Richard lives locally with his wife Claire and their two young sons. He is endeavouring to develop some degree of credibility as a golfer, and he is a follower of most sports, and particularly the fortunes of Tottenham Hotspur FC.

Gavin Henshaw

Gavin Henshaw

Gavin came to the Head Partnership as a solicitor at the beginning of 2004 having trained with a firm in Buckinghamshire prior to that. He became a Partner in May 2008.

Gavin is a qualified Solicitor Advocate, a Collaborative Lawyer and also a Member of Resolution. Gavin was originally a family solicitor, but is now in charge of the Private Client team, using his expertise to develop the firm's contentious probate work.

Gavin lives locally with his wife and in his spare time he enjoys avoiding playing golf and following Sunderland Football Club.

Stuart Mullins

Stuart Mullins

Stuart joined the firm in 2005 and acts for a wide range of commercial clients in dealing with commercial leases and lease renewals and a wide range of commercial property issues. He became a Partner in May 2008.

Stuart is also an integral part of the firms established corporate transactions team dealing with share purchases and sales and the sale of unincorporated businesses.

In 2006 Stuart headed up the firm's Leasehold Enfranchisement department, where he has acted for a number of Tenants of leasehold property looking to extend leases, collectively buy their freeholds and take responsibility for the management of their blocks of flats.

In his spare time, Stuart enjoys playing golf, following rugby and football, travelling and cooking.

Owen Reynolds

Owen Reynolds

Owen joined the Henley Office to run family work there in October 2006, having qualified as a Solicitor in 1998 and having practiced in a well known Reading firm since 1996, specialising solely in matrimonial matters. He became a Partner in May 2008.

Owen is a member of the Law Society’s Family Panel and a Collaborative Lawyer.

In his spare time Owen enjoys eating out and has an interest in cars and Reading Football Club.

Susan Robertson

Susan Robertson

Susan Robertson joined the firm in August 2005 as head of the Employment team which forms an integral part of the Commercial Department, and became a Partner as at 1 May 2008.

Susan specialises in all areas of employment law, offering services to both commercial companies in preparing contracts, staff handbooks and the implementation of policies, and providing valuable advice in disciplinary/grievance matters and to individuals in assessing their claims.

Further, Susan deals with all matters pertaining to commercial contracts, business acquisitions and sales, partnerships, and general commercial matters.

In her spare time, Susan enjoys reading and horse-riding in between taxi-ing her two boys to various sporting events!

Vanessa Cozens

Vanessa Cozens

Vanessa Cozens joined the firm as a trainee solicitor in 2005. She qualified as a solicitor in October 2007 and won the Trainee Of The Year Award by the Reading & Berkshire Solicitors Association earlier that year.

Vanessa became a Partner in May 2010, and is also a member of the Thames Valley Family Association committee and Resolution.

Vanessa lives in Emmer Green, enjoys eating out and retail therapy (particularly handbags), holidaying in sunny climates, and she plays netball for a team in Ascot.

Julia Drury

Julia Drury

Julia Drury joined the firm as a solicitor in 2008, and became a Partner in May 2010.

Julia qualified in 2004, having practised at another firm in Reading since 2002. She deals with all aspects of family law and specialises in matters concerning children, particularly international child abduction. Julia is a member of Resolution and is currently the chair of the Thames Valley Family Lawyers Association committee.

Julia lives in Reading with her husband and enjoys fast cars and most things Australian, including trying to follow Aussie rules football.

Angela Gates

Angela Gates

Angela Gates has been with The Head Partnership since the very beginning as the firm's Accounts Manager, and when it became possible for non-solicitors to own firms of solicitors, Angela became a Partner in May 2010.

In particular, Angela oversees transfers of funds upon the completion of property transactions, and is at the heart of the firm's financial planning and budgeting.

A local resident, Angela is a keen follower of sports, and Manchester United FC in particular.

Rachel Gaylor

Rachel Gaylor

Rachel Gaylor originally joined the firm at the beginning of 2006, and, after a brief period away when her daughter was born, returned to become the Partner in charge of the conveyancing team in May 2010.

Outside of work Rachel has recently run a half-marathon for charity, and has promptly vowed to pursue less energetic fund raising activities in the future.

Alexis Lane

Alexis Lane

Alexis Lane became a Partner in 2010, after joining the firm as a trainee solicitor in 2006 and qualifying as a solicitor 2 years later.

Previously, Alexis studied at the College of Law London, University College London and spent a brief stint on the stage! She assists with Operating Contracts, Terms and Conditions of businesses and employment law.

Jill Dean

Jill Dean

Jill co-founded the practice with Malcolm in 1991.

Formerly the partner in charge of the firm's private client work, advising both long established and new clients on all personal legal affairs, Jill is now retired from the partnership and is a Consultant, advising on client relations, compliance and regulatory matters, and promotional projects.

A keen sportswoman, Jill has played hockey, tennis, squash and badminton in the past but has now turned her sporting attention to golf and is a member of Temple Golf Club. She is also involved in local village and church activities in her spare time.

Born in Yorkshire, Jill has lived in the Hambleden Valley near Henley for 23 years and is married with 2 children, Tom and Polly.


Maureen Fox

Maureen Fox

Mo joined The Head Partnership in 1998 having previously practised in Henley.

Formerly the Partner in charge of the family department, specialising in work relating to marriage breakdown including divorce, disputes regarding children and financial matters, she is now retired from the partnership and is a consultant advising on compliance and regulatory matters, client relations and promotional projects.

Mo is an all issues mediator trained by Resolution (formerly the Solicitors Family Law Association), a Resolution member and a member of the Law Society's Family Panel. She is a Joseph Jackson Memorial Prizewinner in matrimonial law.

Since joining the firm, Mo has obtained an Public Funding Franchise (formerly known as Legal Aid) which has enabled the family law department to offer their services to both private and publicly funded clients. More recently, Mo has been at the forefront of the growth and development locally of Collaborative Law.

Mo lives in Caversham and in her spare time enjoys travelling (particularly in France), learning to play the piano and swimming.
